Uttar Pradesh Matatila Dam
Matatila Dam was constructed with the view to provide better irrigation facilities and production of hydro electricity for meeting the requirements. This dam was constructed during 1958. The exact location of this dam is 93 kilometers from Deogarh. Entire area which involved in catchment is approximately 20 sqkm. This dam has the capacity to store water upto 1132 mcm. The location of this dam is ideal as surrounding area of various hills provides natural support to this dam. At this place various water sports facilities have been developed. This dam is serving dual purposes for the nation. One as a water reservoir for the irrigation purposes and other is production of hydro electricity.
History
It is believed that the place, where this dam is located now-a-days, was high above the ground level before a long time. On the top of the hill, a seat of Mata Sharda was existing and people used to worship that hill due to religious faith. The hills later renamed in Mata Tila, as ‘Mata’ is mentioned for Goddess Sharda and Tila is meant for “Top”. Later the entire area attained recognition with the same name and when this dam was constructed, the same name also given to it as Mata Tila Dam. The etymology behind the name is nothing other than mentioned. This dam is located between geographical coordinates 25°6'12"N 78°21'56"E. Lalitpur railway station is located at 23 kilometers from this dam. Nearby cities from this dam are Shivpuri, Picchouri, Babina, Talbehat etc. This dam was constructed in 1958 and since then maintenance work is continue though, some weaknesses in the walls of this dam have been noticed in recent past but effective repairs gave the meteorological support to this dam again. Talbehat railway station is also located at 10 kilometers from this dam and a busy station.
Technical Portion
This dam has been constructed with the capacity of production of 30.6 Mega Watts hydro electricity. To enable the production, both the flanks of this dam have been given tough structural support so as to ensure the water discharge force at the time of water release and operation of heavy turbine engines. Each unit of this plant has the capacity of 10.2 MW electricity productions thus ensuring total production is 30.6 MW in a year. Direct release of water is taken as method for production. Water storage capacity of this dam is 1132.68 MCM.
