History

Triund is a snowline situated on the foot of Dhauladhar at an altitude of 2,827m above the sea level. Regarded as one of the most easily accessible snowline in the Himalaya, which has its starting point in Iluqua is located 5 Km away from Triund. For a good walker , it’s a four hour journey from McLeodganj to Triund another one and a half hour may be considered to reach Iluqua.
Ahead of Dharamkot , the terrain past the Galu Devi Temple the climbing becomes more demanding.
History
Lord Elgin, the British Viceroy of India (1862-63) was a great admirer of natural beauty of Dharamshala because it resembled to the beauty of Scotland , his home town back in England. Lord Elgin passed away in 1863 while he was on a tour. He now rest in peace in the graveyard of St. John's Church-in-Wilderness, which stands in grove of Pine trees between McLeodganj and Forsythganj.
By 1904, Forsythganj and McLeodganj was a major place of trading and business and official works related to kangra district were done here. It was a serious earthquake of 1905 which compelled the British Government to move
How To Reach
Dharamkot is situated at Forsyth Ganj Road.
Forsyth Ganj Road provides a visual treat to the tourist as the drive along this road is quite attractive. The 1.7 km drive is a great experience for nature lovers.
The attraction can be reached by a hired taxi or a cab from the main city. One can also choose HPRTC and private buses to roam around the city. Walking by the green meadows to the place can also be nice refreshing experience.

The Tibetan Museum is in the charge of conserving the Tibetan artwork artifacts and culture. The museum is situated within the complex of Dalai Lama s temple. White painted walls of the museum displays photographs and artifacts related to Tibetan culture.

- During March to June it is summer season. Tourists activities becomes less as temperature shoots up that is between 22deg C to 38 deg C.
- There is scanty rainfall which it gets mainly between July to August.
- Winters extend from November to February. Winters are very cold, snowfall occurs in the month of December and January.
- During November to February the season is winter . There is extreme cold as snow falls during December and the month of January.

Prashar Fair
It is an important festival celebrated every year in June by tribal people according to their customs, on the onset of summer.

Trekking is the main activity and it is usually done in the area of Dhauladhar range, the trekking equipment can be rented . Two major time for trekking are from the month of April to June and second from September to October.
