Andhra Pradesh Osman Sagar
This lake is manmade and has some attraction for visitors.After each rainy season, the water level of this reservoir reaches upto the highest level.All the amenities around this lake like, resorts, gardens and parks attract the visitor most. Originally this lake was constructed for supply of drinking water but owing to speedy changes in population statistics, the source become smaller than the needs.Hence, this lake is presently being used as recreational point.In recent past the water level in Osman Sagar was more than 1771 Ft, while in Himayat Sagar the same was 1743 Ft.A slight change was found in both the dams because; no continuous filtration for present population is now-a-days being made.
History
On the river Musi, this lake was constructed in the decade of 1920. On the name of last ruler of Hyderabad, Nizam Osman Ali Khan, the name of this lake was named. This lake was constructed to save the locality from any unforeseen flodd incidents and also for supplying of fresh drinking water. At this lake point, a heritage building called, Sagar Mehal, is standing is an example of better architecture and construction. This building was used by the Nizam as retiring place in summer season. From this building, the panoramic view of Osman Sagar is viewable. In present days, the management of this lake is responsibility of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department. From the earlier period, when the rule of Nizam was in force, the breeze of this lake is popular. Another lake named Himayat Sagar is located adjacent to Osman Sagar.
Tourist Attractions
Murgavani Natioal Park
This national park is located at a distance of 25 kilometers from this lake.Various small mammals of Indian Origin are naturally habituating in this national park. This park is spread in the area of 3.6 sqkm and located at Moinabad division of the state. In this national park, the students of botany have a lot of things to see and learn as more than 600 species of various plants and trees are here.
Taramati Baradari
Earlier this Baradari was used as a halt station for various travelers, also known as “Sarai” or “Inn”. This sarai was situated in the Ibrahim Bagh and constructed in the Persian architecture style.This Inn was constructed during the ruling of Ibrahim Qutub Quli Shah. Bank of River Musi is the location of this Baradari. A famous courtier, named Taramati of seventh Sultan of Golkunda, has been honored by giving his name to this Baradari.
Golkunda Fort
This fort was originally constructed by the mud. The main sources behind construction of Golkunda Fort were Kakatiya Kings.This was made during 13th century. This area was developed well in the reign of various rulers of Qutub Shahi. World famous diamond “Kohinoor” was found here. This fort is like an add on to the Osman Sagar lake and tourism around the area. Rs. 10 as entry fee is required to be paid by Indian Nationals and Rs. 100 from every foreign nation. If anybody carrying video camera, another Rs. 25.00 will have to be paid.
