Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary was known to have huge deposits of limestone and therefore in the year 1992, the state government said that the ban was overshadowing the growth of the local economy. It was in the year 1981 that the sanctuary was first notified and the government had also planned to establish a new sanctuary and demolish the old one. The area covered by the Narayan Sarovar Sanctuary was large but owing to the de-notification, the area was reduced keeping in mind the growing trends of mining around this area.
