Haryana Brahma Sarovar
The Brahma Sarovar is a water tank and it is situated in the Thanesar of Haryana, the state situated in the North of India. Though, it is a well known place to the religious people of India and has huge religious implication, there are other aspects of the lake too. Though, it may be made to look like a lake, but it is a water tank in reality. If you are thinking that, being a water tank has taken away the beauty and the power of mesmerizing of this lake, then you are wrong. The bluish green water of the lake is quite tempting and can force you to take a bath.
If you are not overtly religious, then also you can enjoy the beauty of the lake. The sarovar is about 1800 feet long and 1400 feet broad. The shape of the lake is a perfect rectangle. The water of the lake is not crystal clear, but it is not polluted of dirty either. So, if you are thinking about taking a dip, you can do that without any worries whatsoever. Normally, these kinds of water tanks are associated with temples and Gurudwaras and this one is not different. There is a temple Dedicated to Lord Shiva.
History
As the lake has a deep religious implication, the history of it is rather religious. It is fabled that lord Bramha created the whole universe from the land of Kurukshetra. During that creation part, he did a huge yajna to take the blessings of the other gods. After the yajna got over, this sarovar has been created by the gods for the betterment of mankind. It is also fabled that the gods created this sarovar to bring mankind nearer to the God and salvation. So, in short, this lake is taken as the cradle of civilization by the religions and the religious people of India.
In the history, this lake has its place alright. This lake has been mentioned by Al Beruni in his 11th century memoir named Kitab-ul-Hind. From that point of time the lake is known to the people of India and they have been visiting the lake before that time. It is a historical fact. Today’s Brahma Sarovar is actually a renovated version of the older one. Every year, in the winter, migratory birds visit the lake and loads of people gather here in special occasions to attain salvation. All in all, the sarivar is well known and pretty famous from a long time and with time, it is getting better known too.
Attractions
The attraction of such a lake with such religious implication is indeed the special days and times when the chance to attaining salvation is the highest. The main attraction of the lake is indeed the sacred shrine of Lord Sshiva which is situated within the lake. The shrine is accessible through a bridge. This lake offers a breathtaking site during Gita Jayanti celebrated during the last week of November and early December every year. The deep daan and aarti are the two things that will attract the tourists and the pilgrims alike.
How To Reach
Reaching the sarovar is not that tough. You need to reach the city of Thanesar by car or by bus or by train. There are both government and private buses available. After reaching the city, you can hire a taxi or rent a private car and then visit the sarovar. As the lake is within the city limits, you can become a little more adventurous. You can take the local mode of transport like the rickshaw, auto or anything that is available. You can take an HSRTC bus which is plies within the city too.
