Kerala Paravur Kayal
This Lake is naturally located in the Paravur area of Kerala. The ecological balance of this lake is amazing in comparison to its small area. This lake creates a backwater to Kerala. This lake is connected with another canal of the state namely Edava Canal. This canal was in the irrigation channel of the state since 19th century. Total area of this lake is less than 7 square kilometers.Other counterparts of the lakes in Kerala are larger than this lake. This lake is exactly located at the rear (finish point) of River Ithikkara.
History
This Lake is also a natural water reservoir which serves the purpose of irrigation and also drinking for the urban population of the city.During the British period in India, this lake was considered one of the better irrigation supports to the farmers of affected area. Various means were also developed at that time according to the technology developed. Post independence, various reforms were made and this lake re-constructed with latest technologies with regard to irrigation. Beds of the connected canals were made clean to ensure natural flow of water. Water clogging in various areas was made disinfected.During 1972, an authority was formulated in the state to look after the lakes. LDA shouldered the responsibility and the pollution checks of the lake were started. It was revealed that during the monsoon season, water of the lake got contaminated with various sediments and population of water hyacinth is increased in that season. Effective steps were taken accordingly and now the lake is free from all type of water related infections. Vegetation is generally low in the lake because of regularly diminishing fertilization.
Festivals
This place is also known for celebration of various festivals.Different temples and mosques are found here as members of various communities are residing together since long. Puttingal festival is famous in the area.A grand and fine fire work is displayed every year.This job is not only showy but competitive too. Various foreigners come here to see the celebration pattern of festivals and procedures of worship in temples.

This Lake can be accessed by all the three major ways of transportation in vogue.
By Air
Trivendrum is the nearest airport to reach this lake.Frequent motor transports are available from airport.The airport is located at a distance of 65 kilometers from the lake.
By Rail
By rail reaching is also easy as various trains are available to Paravur.Broad gauge and meter gauge lines are also connected with this station. Nearest railway station from this lake is Paravur and located at a distance of 3.5 kilometers. Kollam is 20 kilometers from lake. Bangaulru, Madurai, Kanyakumari, Mumbai and Chennai etc are connected with this railway station on frequent basis.
By Road
By road connectivity to this lake is also easy as this distance is only 20 kilometers from Kollam and 15 kilometers from Varkala Beach. National Highway No. 47 connects other important parts of the state with Paravur. Buses of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation serves the transportation of passengers.
