Madhya Pradesh Tawa Reservoir
Tawa Reservoir is a part of the Narmada Valley Project. It is a very large reservoir on the River Tawa, located in the Hoshangabad district in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Tawa dam was constructed on the Tawa River and the Tawa Reservoir was formed as a result of this dam. This land is one of the greatest irrigation projects in India that is helpful in irrigating around thousands of hectares of farming land falling in Harda and Hoshangabad districts. The dam has the credit to bring prosperity to these districts. This reservoir is located between the Bori wild life park and the Satpura National Park. The maintenance of the Tawa Reservoir is the responsibility of the Water Resources Department of Madhya Pradesh. The height of the reservoir is around 57.91 meters and it is 1,815 metres long.
History
The Tawa reservoir was formed when Tawa dam was constructed on the Tawa River. The construction of the dam was completed in around twenty years from the year 1958 to1978. The construction of this dam resulted in sub merger of around forty four villages.
Attractions
The beautiful Tawa Reservoir is the third largest reservoir under the Narmada valley Project. It provides irrigation water to the farming land of the nearby districts.
The aesthetic surroundings of the reservoir has made it very attractive for the tourists. The reservoir falls on the western boundary of the satpura National Park and the Bori Wild life Sanctuary. Many visitors come here during monsoon season. The tourism department has also started the cruise boat service from reservoir to the Dam.

By Rail

One can also get deluxe buses to Bhopal from Gwalior, Delhi and Jabalpur. These buses usually run overnight and charge around 3-4 Rs per kilometer.
