Maharastra Pashan
This Pashan lake is an artificial lake that has been developed by men by the bonding of Ram Nadi that is the small rivulet. The origination of this rivulet is from Bavdhan flowing through the Sutarwadi, Oashan, Baner to Someshwar wadi and finally drop down in tho the main river named Mula. The total area that has been covered by this lake is about 40 Sq km. The people of the Pashan village use the fresh water of this lake as the main source of water for the purpose of agriculture through out the year and for the house of the Governor.
The PMC has also proposed the development of the Biodiversity Park named as the Baner-Pashan Park. Near about 200 hectares of the land has been acquired by the Government that runs by the side of the Baner Hill. The topography of this hill is variable that is dome shaped and flat and the maximum part of this hill have been formed by rocky and strata by the layers of the soil.
The depth of this lake is decreasing day by day due to the siltation process going on by the side of the hills. Besides this the other main reason of the decreasing depth of this lake is the growth of the wee named Ipomea that prevents the growth of the other water plants. Moreover nearby workshops of washing of the vehicles like cars and the trucks nearby this lake leads to seepage of oil and diesel in this lake and leads to the pollution of water. According to the data of PMC near about 40000 people can get the drinking water from this lake by the cost of Rs.250 per capita instead of Rs.1500 per capita at present.
The deterioration of the quality of water is increasing fast day by day as the mixing of pollutants and other material is going up very fast. The filtration plant of water has been developed by the PMC but instead the quality of the water is not up to the mark. The PMC however banned the supply of the drinking water from this lake in 1998. However The Municipal Corporation of Pune has again started making plans for using the water of this lake again for drinking.
Attractions
This area is also popular among the bird watchers as the area surrounded by this lake is the point of attraction for the migratory birds. By the side of the lake the PMC has constructed the foot path that is about 300 meters and is named as the nature trail. This trail is being constructed on the western side of this lake.
