Rajasthan Jaisamand Lake Alwar
Jaisamand Lake is one of the largest fresh water lakes in India and situates about 6 kilometers away from the city of Alwar in Rajasthan. It has been built in 1910 by Maharaja Jai Sing and it has been turned to a hot picnic spot in the recent years. State tourism authorities and District Administration Authorities have provided many facilities along the banks of this lake which help the visitors to indulge in different types of recreational activities.
History
Maharaja Jai Singh built this lake in 1910 to meet the drinking water requirement of his subjects. This still exists as an example for the kindness of the then rulers.
Attractions
The lake that was built to meet the drinking water shortage and also to block the flooding waters form River Ruparel has become the largest manmade lake in south Asia. Boating in this lake is an interesting experience. Many wooden boats which are built in ancient Rajput architecture are conducting services in this lake. Both the sides of the lake also offer calm and quite atmosphere with shaded pavilions and towers to take shelter. Monsoon season is the best time to visit this area as the entire surroundings will be covered with greenery. There is a large island in the middle of this lake which houses rare species of flora and fauna. This Island has become a place to take rest during small intervals while boating.
How to Reach
Alwar is one of the most important cities in Rajasthan and it is a district headquarters too. It is well connected with rest of the city by road and rail. You can reach here either on road or by rail form Delhi too.
