Rajasthan Ramgarh Lake
Ramgarh Lake is a popular artificial lake located close to Jamwal Ramgarh in the state of Rajasthan in India. From Jaipur, it is located about 20 miles or 32 kilometres away. It is sprawled in an area of 15.5 sq km. In erstwhile times, this lake was the only source for fulfilling the drinking water needs of the inhabitants of Jaipur. This lake is also famous as a picnic spot as during or after monsoon season, the water level rises in the lake and the place becomes quite attractive. A popular temple of Jamwal Mata and old fort ruins are also located here.
This lake also came into limelight when Asian Games were organised in 1982. This place is also popular because of a wide array of wildlife that includes chital, lions and neelgai are available here. In 1982, Indian Government declared this place as a wildlife sanctuary.
This lake is a man made water body and it was created on the forested hills close to an embankment. Thousands of tourists come here in large numbers. Water floods the lake during the monsoon season. At this time, the place offers an alluring beauty. Bird watchers love to visit this place to spot some unique species of birds. Many migratory birds also flock to this place. For the purpose of tourism, Wildlife Safari’s are also organised here. Besides a temple and old fort ruins, there is a polo ground, museum, hunting lodge and many more in this area.
History
As the history of the place goes, this place was a hunting ground for the Jaipur Maharajas. As time passed, this place became a heritage place. Today, Ramgarh’s heritage hotel stands majestically facing the beautiful lake.
Attractions
Sprawled in an area of 4 kms, the artificial lake in Ramgarh is one of the most popular spots for picnics, especially during Monsoon season the beauty of the place increases by several notches. Boating can also be enjoyed in this lake during October to June months.
Considered to be one of India’s best polo ground, Ramgarh is famous among polo lovers. This ground is nestled amidst the Aravalli Hills and Ramgarh Lake. Many people also come here to pay their respects to Jambwa Mata in the honour of whom, a temple is located here. This temple was constructed by Rao Dulherao who belonged to Jaipur’s Kachhwaha Clan.
How to Reach
To reach Ramgarh, road transport is also available. Rajasthan’s Road Transport Corporation buses ply their services to this place. Taxis and coaches can also be hired from the Jaipur City to reach Ramgarh Lake. Sanganer Airport at Jaipur is the nearest airport and Jaipur Railway Station is the nearest railway station.
