Hill Palace Thrippunithura
One of the biggest museum in Kerala is known as Hill Palace nearby the Trippunithura Hill Palace at Kochi. This hill palace is the office of administration for the Rajas of Kochi. This Palace is manufactured with the style of traditional architecture containing approximately 49 buildings and manufacture in year 1865. It spreads at the area of about 54 acres. This whole area includes children’s park, prehistoric park, archaeological museum, a deer park, and a heritage museum.
This Hill Palace is one of the biggest museum of archaeology in state of Kerala and basically the official home of the royal family of the Kochi. This building was spreads in the area of 52 acres and manufactured in year 1865 in an architectural traditional style having about 49 buildings in its area along with horse riding facilities and deer park. There were collections of variety of medicinal plants in the flora of this land. There were also display of inscriptions, manuscripts and stone sculptures, oil paintings, murals, coins, royal furniture along with Simhasana, and belongings of royal family of Kochi in this Ethno-archaeological museum at Thrippunithura.
There were varieties of medicinal plants in the museum campus. The State Archaeology Department of Kerala changed this palace into the museum and it is opened for whole week and only Monday is closed. The Government of Kerala’s cultural affair department also set this museum as a site for the heritage study center for research and training institute. The National Mission for Manuscripts chosen the CHS as the center for Manuscript Conservation and Center for Manuscript Resource.
History
This Hill Palace is one of the biggest archaeological museum of Kerala that was manufactured by Cochin Maharaja in year 1865. This royal family of Kochi handover this palace to the Kerala Government and later on Archaeology department take over the charge of this palace and changed this into the museum in year 1980. In year 1986, this museum was opened for the public. The campus of this museum is also served as the site for the shooting of Malayalam films.
Collections and Exhibitions
There is display of varieties of exhibits that is 14 in number including paintings, coins, weapons, inscriptions, ornaments and crown of the royal family, and stone and marble sculptures etc. The main attraction of the museum is the largest part containing the exhibits of the royal family of Cochin. Other exhibits include the display of Paliam Devaswom and Travancore Royal House, and archaeological department. This display includes the majestic beds, epigraphy samples, ornaments, valuable coins, and a crown made of gold along with precious stones embedded. A very popular movie of Malayalam language also shot in this museum and film named as Manichitrathazhu.
In this museum, also there were display of many more exhibits of Japan and China ceramic vases, menhirs, Thoppikkallu, granite, laterite, Kudakkallu, temple models made of wood, rockout weapons, models from the civilization of the Harappa and Mohenjodaro along with the pottery pieces of about 200 etc. The contemporary art also housed as a gallery in this museum.

Location
This museum is about 10 km far from the town of Ernakulam in the central Kerala.
This Hill palace converted into the museum is about 2 km far in the east of Thrippunithura. This palace can be easily reach by the rail or road and is at the distance of 12 km from the mainland of Ernakulam.

Visiting hours: Except Mondays all days are open for this museum with timings of 9.00 to 12.30 hrs and 14.00 to 16.30 hrs.
