South East Central Railway
South East Central Railway was inaugurated as a new Railway Zone, with Bilaspur as its headquarters by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Bajpai on September 20, 1998. It was also dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Bajpai on April 05, 2003. South East Central Railway is one of the sixteen Zones of the Indian Railways and was part of the South Eastern Railway. It comprises of the Nagpur division, Bilaspur Division and the Raipur Division and serves the state of Chhattisgarh and parts of North Maharashtra.
Although one of the youngest railway zones, the development of railways in the region serviced by the SEC Railway has been consistent over the last 25 years.
With a mission to provide improved customer interface, safety in Operations, better passenger and staff amenities while maintaining profit levels and developing infrastructure to meet future demands, the South East Central railway is set to make its mark and climb the ladder of zonal ranking in various administrative and operational activities.
Some of the recent achievements of the Zone are:
- There was no accident reported in the zone. SECR was an ‘Accident Free Zone’ consecutively for nine months during the current fiscal year (2010-11).
- Freight Traffic increased significantly over the corresponding period last year.
- Commercial services have improved considerably with additional income from advertisement contracts at Bilaspur station.
- Passenger amenities such as PRS and UTS have been commissioned at Sindewahi in the Nagpur division.
- Closed Circuit TV will be installed at Raipur and Durg stations.
- Workshops at Bhilai, Bilaspur and Raipur have worked more efficiently.
- Heritage Museum has inaugurated at Nainpur in December 2010
- Improvements with regard to Signal Telecommunication systems have been accomplished such as commissioning of Distributed Type Electronic Interlocking at Kirodimalnagqr station in Bilaspur Division, Data loggers at Akaltara, Kirodimalnagar and Gatora stations in Bilaspur Division, Telephone Exchanges at Manendragarh station in Bilaspur Division and Nainpur station in Nagpur Division.
