Andhra Pradesh Gnana Saraswati Temple
Basar is a census town located in the Adilabad district of Andhra Pradesh. Basar is the main location of this temple and is dedicated to goddess Saraswati who is goddess of knowledge. In this temple, there is a tradition to provide writing practices to the children so that they become efficient in their studies. Free from any type of discrimination, this school is open for all in the society. Banks of Godavari River, surrounding green and peaceful area and outskirts from main districts provide a pleasant educational atmosphere to this temple. Children are brought here to celebrate the Akshar Abhyasam ceremony every year. This temple is located at 30 kilometers from main district. A large number of pilgrims come to this temple with their children to get the blessings of goddess Saraswati before their wards start the schooling. Children offer, books, Pen pencils and flowers to the goddess and start their schooling. At about 6 A.M. with the touching of sunrays, Aarti starts and after that devotee are distributed with Prasadam.
History
It is evident from history that this place was searched by Maharshi Vyaas and some of his pupils after the Kurukshetra war were over. They were in search of a peaceful location where they can start their normal prayers. In this process, they reached Dandkaranya and the greenery and peace of this area attracted them a lot. They decided to stay here only. Maharshi Vyaas took a dip in holy river Godavari and made three idols of Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali with the help of sand of the river. Faces of the goddesses were smeared with the paste like turmeric. It is believed that eating a small amount of that paste is sufficient enough to develop the knowledge of a devotee. At the time of Vyaas this area was called Vasara and later converted in Basara as the linguistic influence of Marathi was increased in that area.
According to another belief, Maharshi Vyaas wrote the famous epic Mahabharata at this place. He established the Saraswati temple and an image to this effect is also available in this temple. Samadhi of the saint is also near the temple. Some historians said that King Bijialudu, who ruled over this region for a long time, constructed this temple at Basara.
Festivals
Mahashivaratri festival is the main festival organized here inspite of being the Saraswati temple. A 3 days long festival just before the beginning of Vasant Panchmi, this festival is organized at this temple.
Navaratrulu is also celebrated in this area in the period of Dussehra, which called here Dasara as per local language pronunciation. The images of Saraswati, Lakshmi and Kali are considered as savior of this area since long. It is also blessings of theses goddesses that annual percentage of successful students in every examination of this area is higher than other areas of the state.
