Chattisgarh Mahamaya Temple
Presiding deity of Mahamaya temple is Goddess Lakshmi and Saraswati. This temple is located in the Ratanpur district and is centre of attraction till date. This temple is just 25 kilometers from the major city Bilaspur and located at more convenient place with the view of road transportation. Ponds are located near this temple and adding beauty to this place. In the close vicinity other temples of Lord Shiva and Lord Hanuman are also located.
History
This temple was constructed by the King Ratandev during 12th century. Goddess Mahamaya was the Kuldevi of Ratanpur kingdom. This temple has been renovated by the archeological department of India. This temple is one of the fifty two Shakti Peethas located at various places of the country. Ruins of a Shiva temple are also on a hilltop located at 11 kilometers distance from this temple.
Architecture
This temple was constructed in Nagara style. The face of the temple is towards north where a large water tank is situated. Once, the forts, pillars and domes which are located around this temple, were the dignity of Ratanpur kingdom. In the same premises another temple of Kantideval is also located and it is evident that the construction of the same was done in 1039 AD. Expansion of this temple was done by the Kalchuri King named Prithvideva during 15th century. Carving inside the temple complex is beautiful. Various sculptures showing the highness of Goddess Lakshmi are available on the walls of this temple.
Festivals
Navratri is celebrated at this temple with full zeal and devotion and on this occasion a Jyotikalash is presented to the presiding deity for getting her blessings. Kalbhairav is considered as savior of the area including this temple. It is said that any pilgrimage to Mahamaya temple is not considered as completed without approaching Kalbhairav.

Bilaspur is nearest bus terminus and located at just 25 kilometers away. Private taxies are also available to reach this place. From main highway, one will have to get inside approximately 500 mtrs more. Taxies are available to take a visitor inside the temple complex.
