Gujarat Akshardham Gandhinagar
The Akshardham temple of Gandhinagar in Gujarat is one of the largest and most famous temples in Gujarat. The primary deity of this temple is Swaminarayan. There is a 7 feet gold leaf “murti” of Lord Swaminarayan that is the primary deity and focal point of the temple. The structure stands amid sprawling gardens. This majestic monument was sculpted using six thousand tonnes of pink sandstone.
Akshardham temple is created by Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) and was inaugurated in 1992. The temple is spread over an area of 23 acres and is a beautifully designed temple complex. It is a very popular temple in India and many tourists and devotees visit the Akshardham Temple in Gujarat every year. It is one of the most famous tourist places in Gujarat. The temple architecture is a masterpiece of art. It also has a research center that includes libraries, study stations and archives. The temple complex has a beautiful garden and also permanent exhibition halls.
History
It was built by Pramukh Swami Maharaj who is the spiritual leader of the Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS). It was inaugurated in 1992 which was the centenary celebration year of Yogiji Maharaj. The Akshardham Temple since then is a place for religious devotion for Hindus. The temple also promotes arts, culture, education, exhibitions and research for the devotees.
