Gujarat Pimpleshwar Mahadev Saldi
Pimpleshwar Mahadev is one of the historical Hindu temples which is situated in the village of Saldi, in Gujarat. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The annual carnival or the saladi no mela makes the temple quite famous. The carnival takes place in the auspicious month of shravan as in Hindu calendar. As in most of the temples dedicated to lord Shiva has an idol in them, the Pimpleshwar Mahadev doesn’t have any idol. It has a Jaladhari, which is a constant flow of water coming from below the ground. It is a natural flow of water which makes the site famous among its devotees. It is considered to be a very sacred place among the pilgrims as well as the villagers.
History
Almost 200 years after the formation of the village of Saldi by Salvabhai Patel, an incident took place leading to the formation of the temple. A cow of a herder named Petha Patel was noticed releasing milk everyday at a particular location, situated below a Pimpal tree. The Jaladhari was later discovered at this site. This natural offering of milk by the cow without any help led to the belief among the people of the existence of Lord Shiva at the site.
The first shrine was constructed by Petha Patel in the year 1143 according to the Hindu calendar. Later on the main building was constructed by Sayajirao Gaekwad.
