Karnataka Goravanahalli Shree Mahalakshmi Temple
History
This temple is dedicated to Goddess Mahalakshmi and located at Koratagere area of Tumkur district. Gorvanahalli village is the main attraction of this area because of establishment of this temple. This temple was constructed by a devotee Thodappa. After the death of Thodappa, various persons took the responsibility to perform Pooja activity at this temple but neglecting forced them to quit from this temple. Later in 1952 a devotee named Kamalamma settled back in Gorvanahalli and started regular Poojas of Maa Maha Lakshmi. Temple was renovated with the help of local population and government interference. Since then the tradition is on and a large number of devotees come here across the country.
Architecture
Conventional architecture is used in construction of this temple. Gopuram is large and multicolored. On both side of Gopuram, small arches are also constructed. Depth of the temple is approximately 37 Mtrs. Both dies of the temple has a verandah which is covered with decorated roof. Left verandah of the temple has a barricading which provides devotes a way to wait in queue for Darshan of Maa Mahalakshmi. Middle of the Gopuram a large statue of Maa Mahalakshmi is placed in sitting position. Same statue is also in the arches of both sides of the entrance gates. Surrounding of the temple also has the carved wall as boundary wall on the roof. In the Garbhagriha the main deity is seated on a large singhasanam.
