History
History of the temple carries many stories and myths along with it. It is believed that in early years locals of chieftains went to enjoy the annual festival of the Koypallikarazhma Bhagvati Temple. This temple is few kilometers away from Chettikulangara Temple. There the guests and visitors of the festival were humiliated by the villagers. After being humiliated by them, the chieftains decided to build a Bhagvathi Temple in Chettikulangara. Civilians of Chettikulangara were ready to contribute for this holy cause and were headed by Karanavars. Before starting their mission they decided to take blessing from Koddungallur Bhagvathi. After reaching Koddungallur they worshipped Goddess for 12 days. It is believed that Goddess became happy with them and blessed them by saying that she will come to Chettikulangara very soon. After that they returned back with a sacred sword which was given by Velichappadu and started their work of constructing the temple.
