Kerala Thrikkakara Vamanamoorthy Temple
The renowned Thrikkakara Vamanamoorthy temple is located on Thrissur-Emakulam main highway. This sacred Hindu worship place is considered among the 108 sacred Divya Desams or divine places. Moreover, the temple also houses various records of important historic significances. The temple is also mentioned in the various Tamil hymns of Vaishnavite. It is among the few important Vamana worship places in the country.
History
However, there is no proper evidence regarding the history and origin of Thrikkakara Vamanamoorthy temple but it is believed that it was built during the 8th to 9th centuries. According to the Tamil versus of 8th century, the temple was the most important sacred places in the country. However, the temple is managed by renowned Travancore Devaswom board. The temple is best known for its religious festival called Onam which is conducted annually. It is a known fact that the temple is basically dedicated to Bhagwana Vamana who is believed to be one of the incarnations of Lord Sri Vishnu. Moreover, Lord Sri Maha Vishnu is another important deity of the temple. The festival season is usually held in the month of February March or March-April. During the Onam festival, the Onam or Onasadya feast is greatly distributed among the pilgrims. Moreover, during the Onam festival, visitors or devotees from all over the country gather at the temple to participate in special annual Puja or rituals.
Architecture
During the leadership of Travancore king, the temple faced the great renovation as well as development work. Hence, the temple’s architecture clearly resembles of fine architecture style of Travancore. The main sanctum sanctorum of Lord Vamana is adorned with special colors and paintings. The walls of the temple are adorned with various sacred sculptures that show the mythological anecdotes. The min Shikharas or towers of the temple were constructed by a local king who was famous as a great devotee of Lord Vamana. The temple is divided into three sections such as exterior section, middle section and main section. The exterior section of the temple is used for performing special yearly Puja or rituals during the festival. The middle section is reserved for the daily worships activities. The main section of the temple is reserve for the deities of the temple.
