The Thrivodithanam Mahavishnu temple is one of the most ancient temples in India. It is also known as Adbhuta Narayan temple and is visited throughout the year by the devotees. This temple is one of the 108 temples where Lord Vishnu is believed to be presiding and is worshipped. What makes the temple even more special is that he is present with his partner Karpagavelli.
History
This temple was built by Sahadeva, the youngest of the five brothers, the Pandavas. The story of the Pandavas is not unrevealed to anybody, but the fact that makes this temple unique is that Sahadeva built the temple to repent for his sins. There are many legends related to this famous temple. One is that a servant in the temple did not open the gates of the temple on time and therefore was punished by the deity and turned into stone. The statue of the servant is present in the temple.

By Air
One can reach the Thrivodithanam Mahavishnu temple by air at the Nedumbassery international airport is just one and a half hour away from Changanassery, the district where the temple is located.
By Rail
It is quite easy to reach the temple by rail route as Changanassery has its own railway station. It is well connected with all the major cities such as New Delhi, Bangalore, Kanyakumari and many more.
By Road
One can reach the temple by road also as Changanassery is connected to all nearby cities like Kochi, Trivandrum, Coimbatore through Kerala State Road Transport Corporation.
It’s Significance
The temple holds immense importance and reverence for the millions of devotees who intensely worship Lord Vishnu. The temple is built aesthetically as the mural paintings are worth watching. The stone inscriptions are marvelous and add to its beauty. It is even more important to the worshippers of Lord Vishnu as he is present with his wife Karpagavelli along with Krishna, Siva, Ganapati and Narsimha. People throng the temple in huge numbers as it is deeply revered and worshipped by them. It is well known for its architectural magnificence and grandeur. Poems and hymns written in praise of this temple dates back to 800 AD which were composed by the Alwar saints Nammalvar.
