It’s Significance
It is believed that there was a demon named Khara who was an ardent follower of Lord Mahadeva. Lord Siva or Mahadeva was happy and satisfied with his prayers. He gave Khara three Siva Lingas which he kept on the ground in Vaikom. It got placed over there permanently and was later built as a temple. Some also believe that the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, the Rishi Parshuram built the temple. The temple holds great significance for the passionate devotees of Lord Siva as it is believed that if one prays over here before the “ucha puja”, his or her wishes would be fulfilled instantly. It has a golden dome and copper plated roof. The splendor and beauty of the temple speak for itself as the light of divinity and hope is spread all over the temple. There are many festivals celebrated at the temple, some of them are Vaikom Ashtami and Vaikathashtami. Thousands of passionate and staunch devotees throng the temple during these festivals. But it is a fact that whether there is a festival or not, the fervor and spirit remains the same throughout the year.
