Maharashtra Mahalakshmi Temple Of Mumbai
The Mahalaxmi Temple is a famous temple of Mumbai which is located in Breach Candy Mumbai. The temple was constructed on a creek to the North that separated the island of Mumbai from the Koli island of Worli. It was after the completion of the Hornby Vellard in 1784 that The creek was filled. Later the modern temple of Mahalaxmi came up on the site.
The temple is dedicated to the Goddess Lakshmi who is considered to be a divine consort of Lord Vishnu and the Goddess of Wealth according to the Hindu Mythology.
History
The temple is said to have been constructed in 1785. The temple houses three goddesses: Mahalakshmi, Mahakali and Mahasaraswati. All three of the deities have been decked with gold bangles, nose rings and pearl necklaces. You can see the goddess of Mahalakshmi riding a demon and a tiger in tandem.
Best Time To Visit
It is during Navaratri celebrations that devotees from all places visit the temple and it is in these days that the temple is especially decorated to pay obeisance. The devotees have to stand for hours at a stretch for a glimpse of the deity.
