Maharashtra Morgaon Ganesha Temple
Shri Moreshwar Mandir temple or Shri Mayureshwar Mandir or temple is also called Morgaon Ganesha temple. It is a famous Hindu worship place. According to Hind mythology, this temple is an important starting as well as ending location of sacred pilgrimage of total eight sacred Ganesha or Ganpathi temples which are called Ashtavinayaka. Remember, Morgaon is an important centre of Ganapatya sect of Hindu religion. The presiding deity lord Ganesha is present here in the form of Ashtavinayaka or God with eight arms.
History
A renowned Ganapatya sage called Morya Gosavi worshipped at this place before moving to town Chinchwad. However, there is no proper evidence available regarding the origin and construction of this sacred Hindu worship place yet it is believed that it was constructed during the seventeenth of century. However, according to some historians, the temple was constructed during 13th to 14th century by Morya dynasty. In short it is considered among the oldest Ganesha temples in the country. According to sacred Ganesha Purana, lord Ganesha incarnated himself as Mayureshwara or also called Mayreshwar who claimed to have six arms and amazing white complexion. Moreover, peacock is a mount of lord Ganesha or Ashtavinayaka. Lord Ganesha was born to Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva in Treta Yuga. The eight arms incarnation of lord Ganesha is popular for killing demon king called Sindhu.
