Located in the heart of Udaipur is the Jagdish temple that is sacredly worshipped by the Hindu community is dedicated to the Lord Laxmi Narayan. In the ancient days the temple was famously known as JagannathRai. The temple was constructed in year 1651 and is located on elevated and long veranda. The temple is attached to a two level hall called Mandapa. The temple is considered to be largest in the city of Udaipur.
The temple was constructed by first Maharana Jagat Singh. The architecture of the temple follows the pattern of Māru-Gurjara.
The intricate carvings on the walls of temple make it more attractive, the roof of the temple has is adorned with the artifacts while pillars in the temple are beautifully carved.
The temple has the structure of elephants carved out of stone at the entrance and a huge stone that inscribes the references that can be linked to Maharaja Jagat Singh. The temple can be reached by walking through the 32 stairs that are made of the marble stone. The temple also houses an idol of Garuda that has been made of brass and also a statue of a half man and half-eagle. These idols are considered to be guarding the temple of Lord Vishnu.
An idol of Lord Vishnu with four arms is part of temple. The idol has been whittled from a single black stone. The altar of Lord Jadish is surrounded by the four smaller altars of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Shakti, Lord Shiva and God of Sun.
