Tamilnadu Nellaiappar Temple
The sacred Nellaiappar temple is devoted to its main deity called lord Shiva. The temple is among the renowned Shiva temples in the state. Moreover, the festival called Mahashivratri, a festival devoted to Lord Shiva is highly celebrated here. Hence, during the festival time, devotees from all over the neighboring cities gather here to have sacred Darshan and blessings of Lord Shiva. The temple is also famous for its ancient Indian style of architecture.
History
As per the sacred Puranas, the sacred Gopurams had been built by renowned Muluthukanda Ram Pandiyan. However, some other significant parts of the sacred place had been built by renowned Nindraseer Nedumaran during the 7th century. Moreover, the main holy Mandapam along with its sacred musical pillar had been constructed by famous Nindaraseer Nedumaran. It is said that the sacred Nellaiappar as well as Kanthimathi Mandir or temples were two different independent buildings with spaces in between. However, in the year of 1674, the two sacred temples had been linked by a great follower of Lord Shiva called Thiru Vadamalaiappa Pillaiyana. He constructed the sacred chain mandapam in the temple. Apart from that just at the west part of the chain mandapam there is a flower garden which was established in the year of 1756 by renowned Thiruvengadakrishna Mudalliar. Moreover, there is a Vasantha Mandapam located in the centre part of flower garden. It is said that the Nandi mandapam was constructed in the year of 1654 AD by Sivanthiappa Nayaka. Moreover, the sacred flag on the temple was established in the year of 1155 AD.
Weather And Time To Visit
Tamilnadu state enjoys the tropical climate condition. Hence, the temple can be visited throughout the year, however the best time to get there is from the month of March to October. Moreover, followers of Lord Shiva can also visit during the festival of Mahashivratri.
