Tamilnadu Shore Temple
The sacred ancient temple is named shore temple because it overlooks the natural shore of famous Bay of Bengal. This structural temple has been constructed with granite blocks dating back to 8th of century AD. During the construction of this ancient Hindu temple, the town used to be a commercial port especially during the kingdom of Nrasimhavarman second of famous Pallava dynasty. The sacred temple is considered among the best monuments in the state. Moreover, the temple is also among the oldest rock cut stone-structure in the south India.
History
The sacred Shore temple was constructed by king Narasimha varma during the 7th century. It was earlier a cave temple but later changed into a rock-cut temple. However, the construction work of the temple had been going for centuries. Hence, this Hindu sacred temple complex was completed during 700-28 AD by King Rajasimha or also called Narasimhavarman second. Moreover, the temple is also considered among the last Hindu temples that seemed to present at the submerged coastline. However, in the year 2004, tsunami damaged the temple. Hence, government has renovated it and protected it from any kind of natural disaster.
Weather and time to visit
Remember, Mahabalipuram is famous for its evergreen climate condition. Hence, the temple can be visited throughout the year. The temperature usually rises to 28 to 30 degree Celsius during summer while in winter; temperature may drop down to 5 degree Celsius.
