Uttar Pradesh Akhileshwar Mahadev Temple
Allahabad district is famous for its various religious sites and ancient Hindu temples. The renowned Akhileshwar Mahadev temple is among one of them. The sacred Hindu worship place is devoted to its main deity Lord Shiva, the Adi-Shakti or fundamental source of universal energy. The temple is basically famous for its Shiva linga which is believed to be Swayambhu or self originated. Mahashivratri, a festival devoted to Lord Shiva, is highly celebrated here and during the festival time, the followers of Lord Shiva gather here to have the blessings of God.
History
However, there are no written documents available regarding the origin and construction date of this Shiva temple yet it is said that the temple was constructed by a great Shiva follower called Shivdas about 4 centuries ago. According to a local folklore, once a sage called Ramcharan Sukhdasa visited the location wherein current temple located. He worshipped the Lord Shiva and performed his penance. It is said that he was granted ultimate salvation by God. As per another legend, once a cowherd visited the place wherein current temple is located. He found a Shiva Linga at the location. He then informed to villagers about a self originated Shivalinga thus villagers decided to build a Shiva temple near the location.
Weather and time to visit
Allahabad city has tropical climatic condition like in all other parts of Uttar Pradesh. It means, during summer, temperature rise up to 45 degree Celsius while in winter it could drop down to minimum 5 degree Celsius. Monsoon usually starts in the month of July. Hence, the best time to get there is in the months of March to October.

Visitors or pilgrims can also hire road-based transportation such as buses, cars and taxis to reach at renowned Akhileshwar Mahadev temple.
